Special Notice and Prices!

· All spring courses will NOT include breakfast or lunch. The cost for meals, and lodging should be provided by the student. 

- All-Hazard Classes are $85/ day
-Maps Course is a flat rate of $60 
-S-390 is a flat rate of $450

· Cancellation Policy - A full refund will be given up to 1 week prior to the start date of the your class. Cancellations after the cut off date will be charged $30 per class day (example: 3-day class = $90 fee). No refunds will be given for “No Shows”. Please contact the Coordinator for substitutions. All Cancellations must be made by email request to [email protected].

Maps and Compass-Basic Land Navigation
*This course will be held at Larkspur Fire Department

April 25 - 27  (3 Days)

Course Description: 

This course is an introduction to Map and Compass use for Wildland Firefighters. It’s recommended for those that either lead others or themselves. Topics covered in the 3-days include topographic maps, compass use, Latitude/longitude, UTM, Township/Range and introduction to apps like Avenza and Field Maps. The third day will be field day to practice the skills you learned. Prerequisites: None

S-390-Fire Environment Assessment & Fire Behavior Estimation
*This course will be held at the Marriott of Colorado Springs on Tech Center Drive 

April 21 - 25 (4.5 Days)

Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce fire behavior calculations by manual methods, using nomograms and the Fireline Handbook Appendix B: Fire Behavior, PMS 410-2. Students gain an understanding of the determinants of fire behavior though studying inputs (weather, slope, fuels, and fuel moisture). Students also learn how to interpret fire behavior outputs, documentation processes, and fire behavior briefing components. Prerequisites: Qualified as any single resource boss, Completion of S-290 and complete the Online prework.
